ABOUT

I picked up guitar at age 13, and began writing music after learning a few chords.  In high school and college, I played in several punk and rock bands, and started recording on 4-track and 8-track tape machines.  In 2005, I started the Baltimore rock band FFHH, and simultaneously began exploring digital recording.  My first full-length solo album, False Colors, was released in August 2007.  In 2008, I completed a second full-length album, Paper Ghosts (March 2008), and an EP, Dislocation (July 2008).  Recently, I have been recording a series of singles, which you can hear online at Bandcamp.

My musical interests and ideas have followed many paths since I started playing and recording music.  Though I started out playing simple acoustic songs, my songs span different styless, from punk to rock to pop. Overall, I try to make songs that are both engaging as well as unexpected; to try to pull the listener in with something strange yet familiar.  As Music Monthly wrote about my 2003 EP, Ineffigy, “His music may loosely fall into the category of modern rock, but there is a dark...underbelly to Buta's songs that makes them different.”
